About Mrs. Thakur...
My name is Jennifer Thakur and I have been the school counselor at Farmington Woods IB/PYP Elementary School for 5 years and prior to that, I was the intervention counselor at Daniels Middle School. I enjoy working with elementary aged children and am excited to be working with your child. I help students when they feel upset, angry, confused, worried, sad, or lonely. When I work with a student, we talk about things that are important to them, and we do activities to help build skills and solve problems. Unlike individual teachers who work with a class of students, counselors have the opportunity to work with all of the school’s wonderful students during classroom guidance sessions. In addition to classroom guidance and individual counseling, I work with many students through small group counseling.
I have created a Yoga group at school to help students who suffer from extreme anxiety as well as a "get organized" group to help students who are often disorganzed and get easily flustered. Last year, I implemented a Career Day for our 5th graders to allow them the opportunity to learn about many different career options and to start making the link between education and career.
I also started the Student Ambassador program at Farmington Woods IB/PYP Elementary School and enjoy teaching the students how to embrace a leadership role in our school. The Ambassadors are utilized as "tour guides" for new and prospective families during our open houses as well as the new family picnic at the end of the school year. The ambassador is also used in the classroom as the assistant when new students are enrolled at Farmington Woods.

About Mrs. Harris...
Greetings! I’m Holly Harris and I am thrilled to join the FWES staff this year as the part-time school counselor. I recently moved to the triangle from Charlotte, North Carolina. In Charlotte I taught first grade for three years before earning my master’s degree in counseling from Wake Forest University. I was a school counselor for two and a half years in Charlotte before the birth of my son, John Ryan “JR”.
I grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and attended Gettysburg College. I migrated south upon my graduation in 2005. Fun Fact: I met my husband, Brandon in Charlotte when we got into a car accident (I rear-ended him)! Now we have a beautiful 9-month old baby boy, and two dogs, Jerry (11 years), and Ty (2 years). In my spare time I enjoy yoga, meditation and running the local greenways! I look forward to working with the FWES family this year!

School Counseling Mission Statement:
The counseling department at Farmington Woods IB/PYP Magnet Elementary School works to provide each student access to a guidance curriculum that focuses on friendship building, character education, work habits and emotional regulation. We also work to provide students with opportunities to be leaders in our school and gain the tools and knowledge to succeed in the 21st Century.
Philosophy:
The American School Counselor Association guides the school counseling program at Farmington Woods IB/PYP Magnet Elementary School. This model suggests that elementary school counselors spend the majority of their time teaching prevention of behaviors through classroom guidance and group work rather than intervening once a negative behavior has manifested itself.
